Soviet Union, 1973: CIA report on a luminous bright-green airborne object

A previously-classified CIA intelligence report from 1973 documenting a Soviet citizen's observation of a luminous, bright-green airborne object in the summer of 1973. One of the few PURSUE entries with an explicitly Cold-War-era USSR provenance; reproduced in full as part of Release 02.

PURSUE Release 02 includes a previously-classified U.S. Central Intelligence Agency intelligence report describing a Soviet citizen's observation, in the summer of 1973, of a luminous, bright-green airborne object. The report is one of the very few PURSUE entries with an explicitly Cold-War-era USSR provenance.

The historical significance is twofold. First, the document confirms that the CIA was tracking and aggregating UAP-class reports from inside the Soviet Union during the depths of the Cold War — at a time when the existence of a parallel Soviet 'Petrozavodsk' research effort would not be publicly known for another four years. Second, the report's bright-green color descriptor is unusually specific, and corroborates a strain of Cold-War-era UAP reporting (from Norway, Sweden, and the U.S. Southwest) describing similarly-colored objects.
